Can anyone give advice on parking for MSU football game?

We are going to the game this Saturday, October 4th. It will be our first time atending a game. Our friends, who are season ticket holders and driving separately, have a parking pass so can%26#39;t really advise on where to park.

We will be arriving around 10:00. Is public parking on campus usually readliy available that far in advance of the game? Any suggestions of specific places (on or off campus) that are good to park? We got the tickets for free so paying to park is not a problem. If we could park off campus in the vicinity of Harrison and Trowbridge, it would be convenient for our friends to pick us up on their way to their parking.

I do wish I could help but, alas, I can%26#39;t. I grew up in EL and graduated from State. We always rode bikes to the games or parked downtown then walked through the prettiest part of campus, across the river to the stadium. I just wante to say HAVE A GREAT TIME! The games are so much fun as is the parade leading into the stadium. My 9th grader hopes to attend State in 4 years then I too shall be an MSU MOM! Have fun! Moms

Sorry I didn%26#39;t get to your question in time for the game. I hope you had a good time. The Iowa game on the 4th was a great game!

I thought, however, I would post an answer to your question in case anyone else had the same question for upcoming games.

I always do the following and have never had a problem with traffic or lack of parking.

Take I-496 to the Pennsylvania/Cedar/Larch St. exit. If coming Westbound on I-496, turn left onto Pennsylvania. If coming Eastbound, turn right onto Pennsylvania. Take Pennsylvania to Mt. Hope Rd. (Marathon gas station on corner). Turn left on Mt. Hope Rd. Follow Mt. Hope Rd., as it leaves Lansing and crosses into East Lansing. Stay on Mt. Hope until you get to Farm Lane and you will see the signs for the commuter lot and parking (on your left).

There is usually plenty of parking in the commuter lot at Mt. Hope and Farm Lane or in the fields across the street right up to game time. Parking is free and the stadium shuttle will pick you up in the lot.

There is construction on Farm Ln through 2009 but it has had no effect on the parking lots or the shuttle. The buses now have a special lane on Hagadorn and go ahead of traffic thanks to the traffic police.

The stadium shuttle costs $3.00/pp for a round trip ticket. You buy the tickets at the booths set up in the lot. If it is a nice day, you can also walk but it is about a 25-30 minute walk from the lot and has become a lot more difficult with Farm Ln being shut down for construction. Until Farm Ln has been reopened, I would take the bus.

If you come right before the game starts, the commuter lot may be full but you can make park at the MSU pavillion or in the fields right across the street from the commuter lot.

Tailgating is also allowed at the commuter lot. The best part about parking in the commuter lot is after the game there are no traffic backups in leaving and getting back to the freeway. The buses have a special dedicated lane going back to the parking lot after the game.

The biggest drawback is you may have to wait in a line to board the shuttle buses after the game but it is usually not a terribly long wait. The shuttle buses board where they let you off (East side of Stadiumm).

Go State!
