Just wanted to send out a public service message to any and all traveling to and from Detroit Metro Airport: keep your eyes on the posted speed limits!
I got a speeding ticket last weekend as soon as I got off the I94 ramp coming into the airport. There were cops everywhere pulling people over. As soon as they were done with one person, they were on to the next -- never really had to turn their flashers off.
I wasn%26#39;t paying attention to the speed signs and got nailed for 57 in a 45. A painful $150 way to start off my vacation.

Eureka Road on the south end of DTW is the same way. Lots of cops looking for speeders where the limit is only 45mph. Be careful and watch your speed!
Detroit Metro Airport -- Watch Posted Speeds!
End of month ';quota time'; and, around here, it always is like shooting fish in a barrel. Southfield Freeway in Allen Park (between Outer Drive and Rotunda) is another speed trap. So is I-96 in Livonia.
Fight it and claim the radar/laser really picked up a 747 on final approach to runway 22R.
I figured it was a basic money grab when the cop didn%26#39;t even bother to ask me for an updated insurance card (the one I gave him with my registration was outdated).
No tickets in eight years -- I supposed I was due!
I like that idea, tev -- I will remember that next time!
Michigan, the United States...just drive the speed limit and you won%26#39;t get a ticket.
By the way, they do NOT have quotas, they can write as many tickets as they want to.
Just realized that those red, white and blue signs with the 94 and 96 are highway markers, NOT the posted speed limits! Who knew?
';Just realized that those red, white and blue signs with the 94 and 96 are highway markers, NOT the posted speed limits! Who knew?';
But the one on 696 is pretty close to accurate.
YES do the speed limit! It is hard because sometimes people think they are still on the freeway going into the airport at Metro. Just don%26#39;t fall into ';everyone else is doing it...';
I have not gotten a ticket, but many anguished looks for impatient/late motorists thinking I was driving slow.......cops don%26#39;t care if you have a flight to catch, no excuse for disobeying the law...as they would say.
I go to and from Metro airport pretty regularly, and this is the first ticket I%26#39;ve ever gotten. That is not to say I%26#39;m always speeding either -- just that this time I wasn%26#39;t paying much attention.
This particular occasion smelled more like a money grab to me, especially with the way the cops were racing from one driver to the next. I%26#39;m not kidding - this cop didn%26#39;t even explain what the ticket was, only ';read the instructions'; before he nearly sprinted back to his car in order to pull the next person over.
I realize I%26#39;m guilty -- if I had maintained the speed I was supposed to, I wouldn%26#39;t have been pulled over. It was the manner in which cops were doing this that I felt like warning folks.
