could you tell me if the museum is in a good / safe neighbourhood?
Motown Historical Museum
It%26#39;s not the best neighborhood in the city nor the worst. You%26#39;ll be fine during museum hours. The Henry Ford Hospital/New Center Area are just to the east and are fine, but I wouldn%26#39;t be anxious to explore if I were unfamiliar with the neighborhood.
Motown Historical Museum
I just returned 2 weeks ago and Hitsville Motown Museum is an excellent visit. Don%26#39;t worry about the neighborhood OK it is not the best but it has it own parking lot (free) and it is such an %26#39;institution%26#39; that tourist are most welcome there. The neighborhood is called new center right on w. grand blvd. not far from fisher theatre and even closer henry ford hospital.
can%26#39;t say a bad word about the museum - excellent guide, information, memorabilia, record shop, Don%26#39;t pass it up when in Detroit
I intend visiting the Motown Museum in August from Canada (whilst on holiday from the UK). I am looking for a safe/decent hotel in the area of the museum for approx 2 nights stay + directions to the hotel/museum from the Greyhound Bus station on arriving from Canada. Can anybody help me please?
The Museum is in a fine area, it%26#39;s very close to the Fisher Building. No worries. Also, request Will Smith as your tour guide. He gives a fantastic tour!! Enjoy and get ready to dance and sing at the end of the tour!
Cornwall - Try the St. Regis hotel, i belive it%26#39;s adjacent or across the street from the Fisher Building.........and about a mile from the Motown Museum.

Mmmm .... not sure about the St. Regis as a place to stay.
Looks like the bus station is still on Howard near the Lodge freeway downtown. Hmm, thought it had been moved. My bad.
Not sure of the best way to get to the Museum from there b/c the freeway is closed part of the way up to the location. Closed at I-94. If you took a cab, I%26#39;m sure the cabbie would know how to get you there.
I would be more inclined to stay downtown if you%26#39;re going to hang around in the city. Check TA reviews on hotels here.
Thanks all for your advice. I will checkout the St Regis online and will contine to moniter this site for further advice to satisfy my need to experience the soul that is Detroit of the 1960s.
How long does the tour take?
The museum is quite small and it will take about an hour or even a little less. Will Smith is the best tour guide there, ask for him when you make your visit!
I just passed the St. Regis last week and it was closed. Their website says they%26#39;re undergoing renovations and will reopen in August.
