Hello everyone! I visit in Northern Michigan every summer. This winter we have decided to ski in Northern Michigan so we will be there over New Years. We are staying at Bay Harbor, half-way between Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands. Are there any fun activities over New Years Eve? We have two teens and a tween with us. Can%26#39;t wait to hear! Moms
New Years Eve in Petoskey/Boyne Mountain/Boyne HighlandsLast year Boyne Nountain had quite a bit going on for new years including keeping the Avalanche Bay Waterpark open past midnight for a kids/family party. I don%26#39;t see anything on their website yet for this year but here is the link to last years advertisement (http://www.boyne.com/EventsCalendar/NYE.html)
New Years Eve in Petoskey/Boyne Mountain/Boyne HighlandsThanks! I%26#39;ll keep an eye out for that. It sounds like fun.
I was hoping one of the towns would host fire works or a winter festival. A lot of the New Jersey Shore towns do that on New Years Eve/Day and call it ';first night'; or ';white night';. Anyone know of any such festivals or fireworks? Moms
Hey Moms...
Glad to hear you%26#39;re going to be in the area for New Years! I don%26#39;t know about fireworks, but if you%26#39;re around the ski hills, Nubs Nob has their annual torchlight parade...all the ski patrolers and ski school instructors make two runs down the face of the hill with like roadside torches (flares)...it%26#39;s pretty cool, they do figure 8%26#39;s down the hill and stuff...fun if you%26#39;re in the area, but I doubt if it would be worth the drive from Bay Harbor on it%26#39;s own. I%26#39;ll do a little more research for you and see what else is going on. Now that we have a little one, we don%26#39;t make it out much for new years...we generally host a party so we can put her to bed and stay up ourselves...man, is it impossible to find a sitter on New Years or what? I just wish grandma and gramps were old enough that they didn%26#39;t want to go out for NYE!!
Poor DH, can%26#39;t find a babysitter for NYE-LOL. I got a good chuckle out of that one. Be glad your parents still want to go out for such, DH, though I know it inconvients you...LOL. I remember those days, and trust me, they fly by faster than you can blink and you will be those grandparents faster than you know. But the party sounds good-enjoy!!
Hey Tyme,
Yeah, I was just kidding about the grandparents...I%26#39;m definitely glad they%26#39;re spry enough to want to go out and rock it!! My dad was out helping me cut wood the other day and he nearly ran me into the ground!! ...not that I%26#39;m exactly the picture of fitness mind you...lol
Anyway, Moms...it dosen%26#39;t seem like many establishments have their NYE plans posted yet. I%26#39;ll keep an eye out and let you know what I come up with...
Thanks DHC. I am hoping for something fun. Nubs Nob sounds promising! I am also thinking about dinner at the top of Boyne Highlands. You take a sleigh to the top then dine. Don%26#39;t know if it is worth it for the kids though. I%26#39;ll just be patient...
Around here it is getting too late to find availability for anything on NYE. The restaurants are booking up quickly. I suppose all of my friends%26#39; talk of ';what are you doing for New Years?'; has me thinking ahead.
Hoping for a ';meet up'; with the Michigan contingent this summer. It is hard to decide where because the state is so vast! Moms
DH: I was only kidding, I hope you know that, DH. LOL. I am glad they are spry enough and it does a parent wonders, mentally, to be able to run their grown children into the ground doing some physical endevour. LOL, again.
Moms: Yes, a definite must I think. And the only place I can imagine doing so would either be Mackinac Island and/or Traverse City or Petoskey, since we all seem to gravitate to those 2 places at one time or another during the year!!
Tyme, of course I know you%26#39;e joking!
As for a meet up, that sounds great! It might not be the most glamouous location, but I%26#39;m about 15 minutes East of Petoskey and would be more than happy to have a TA sanctioned bbq or something...plenty of time to plan that one!
Moms, I can%26#39;t believe this slipped my mind, but Boyne Highlands does NYE fireworks...kind of a smaller display, but maybe you could ski Nubs or Boyne during the day, watch the torchlight parade at Nubs then head over to Boyne for the fireworks. Boyne%26#39;ll be hopping too, with the Zoo Bar, the Slopeside Lounge and they usually have a big party on the second floor of the lodge.
Also, Staffords Pier in Harbor Springs is a pretty hopping spot on NYE.
