Where is the best most challenging skiing in Michigan? Looking for a ski experience since we can%26#39;t make it out West this year.
Skiing in Michigan
I would say the hills around Traverse City. Boyne highlands and mountain.
Skiing in Michigan
Hello skay448,
If you want to ski where you have to be experience take a look at Mount Bohemia in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My daughter has ski there before and she loved it.

I don%26#39;t want to be a downer but Michigan offers nothing as challenging as out west. That is just my honest opinion. Take a look at Boyne it is quite popular. Crystal Mountain might be worth a look too. It has a few black rated courses. I%26#39;ve never gone skiing in the UP that might be better.
Definitely Mt. Bohemia (near Copper Harbor)
Mount Bohemia%26#39;s great, but definitely expert skiiers only. That%26#39;ll be the closest thing to ';out west'; that you%26#39;ll find in Michigan...it%26#39;s a hellava hike to get there though! My favorite (and much closer) ski area in Michigan is Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs...just across the street from Boyne Highlands but much better skiing, snow and friendlier people...it%26#39;s where all the locals ski.
Also, maybe check out Searchmont in Canada...it%26#39;s about an hour or under from Sault Ste Marie and has great midwest skiing.
Searchmont-BOY, does that bring back the memories, DH! We took our kids there a few times when we all skied. It was wonderful, just the right size for letting kids go off by themselves, (if old enough). Plus, we always took that Snow Train one day, too and that was enjoyable for all of us. I had forgotten that place! WE also loved Nubs Nob. Great skiing!!
If you head here to ski in March, you may want to avoid Boyne Mountain on St. Patrick%26#39;s Day weekend. That weekend is ';Krazy Daze';... it%26#39;s basically a drunk-fest.
So, if you are looking for a relaxing vacation weekend or a trip away with young kids, avoid it.
On the other hand, if you are traveling without any kids and enjoy a rowdy bunch, come check it out! Bring your Mardi Gras beads!
