Benton Harbor/St. Joes or Saugatuck/Douglas

I am trying to decide whether 2 couples should spend a weekend in Benton Harbor/St. Joes or in Saugatuck/Douglas. We have been to Saugatuck/Douglas before and had a great time. Is there the same kind of feel in St. Joes? Are there alot of shops in the downtown area? We will be there October 31 through November 2. I know that we will be missing the Halloween parade in Douglas which we attended last year (it was very entertaining). Any thoughts would be helpful.

I would think Saugatuck/Douglas would still be the pick.

If you choose to stay in Saugatuk again -- you could always drive down to St Joseph on Blue Star highway for the day on Saturday. That way you could get a feel for both areas. There are less shops in St Joe -- but a great view of the lake and lighthouse. As you already know you can not see the lake from Saugatuk.
