You could take Amtrak (train) to Bangor, Michigan. Bangor is 10 miles from South Haven.

To take the train it cost $27 one way from Chicago to Bangor. They say it takes 2 hours, 19 minutes for the trip. Leaves Chicago at 5:20 pm central time and arrives at Bangor at 8:39 pm eastern time.
