Going to the Great lakes for the first time ever this summer. Will be a girls getaway. Need any and all tips, please. I saw some pictures on trip advisor that showed crystal clear beaches and I believe it was on Lake Michigan. If you%26#39;ve been there recently please advise. Thanks!

That could be anywhere, almost, along Lake Michigan! I would highly suggest Traverse City. Lots of hotels, motels, rentals, restaurants to choose from. You have Grand Traverse Bay at your disposal, with Lake Michigan being nearby, as well as numerous inland lakes, rivers, streams for canoeing, fishing, tubing. Wineries. Shopping. Charming, cute, little towns. Boat rides. Bike path. Mall. Great little downtown. Movies. Bars. Museums. Great beaches. You name, they have it.

Check out this winery that has a B%26amp;B. Absolutely beautiful. Not right in town though.

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago. Very nice and close to town.

If you go to Traverse City, you%26#39;ll also need to take a short drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Also, about 30 miles west of Traverse City is:

Another destination would be Mackinac Island. Very quaint and lovely, but it doesn%26#39;t have any beaches. Our favorite place to stay is the Harbor View Inn.
Have fun! I%26#39;m jealous.
We did a Bachelorette Party (Okay, the bride was 32, it%26#39;s not your typical BP) last summer for 4 of us in Grand Haven.
We stayed at the Harbor House Inn on the Channel... which was the PERFECT location!!!! We had breakfast on the porch... walked up to the beach... walked up to downtown... had coffee sitting on the breakwall (gotta love B %26amp; B%26#39;s)... a couple of fabulous dinners... and took a day trip to Saugatuck... and another to see the WhiteCaps in Grand Rapids (yup, a couple of gals, baseball and beer... the guys woulda died! But we had a blast!)
You have several options for a good weekend. It really depends on whether you are flying or driving in.... and where you are flying in to. Just a short list of cute options that you would enjoy:
New Buffalo - close to Chicago, small beach town, great shopping and a casino.
South Haven - small beach town, more family-friendly, more cute shopping.
Saugatuck - little art community, has GREAT shops, great restaurants, it%26#39;s like one of the Cape Cod towns.
Grand Haven - small coast guard town, has one of the nicest beaches (if you like crowded beaches in michigan.
Pentwater - has dunes, camping, dune-buggy riding, more outdoorsy
Ludington - has the ferry to Wisconsin, not the best shopping, but a great town for families.
Elmira - town by Sleeping Bear Dunes. If you%26#39;re idea is simply the beach, you%26#39;ll love it.
LeLand - on the Leelanaue Penninsula.. it%26#39;s a small shipping village, with a couple of cute shops, near the Leelanaue wineries.
Sutton%26#39;s Bay - on the other side of the Penninsula, it%26#39;s more of a boating town, and the lake is colder, but the shopping is better.
Traverse City - it%26#39;s a big city, on the water, with wineies, shopping, nightlife... and beaches... but the water is colder.
Elk Rapids - it%26#39;s like a New Buffalo of the north.
Charlevoix - little boating town, on the bya, gerat shopping, near the golf courses, resort town.
Petoskey - more shopping, gerat state park, nice beaches (but water is colder), has golf courses, and a couple of good resorts.
Mackinaw - google it, the island is better than the city, both are cute, the city is for kids, the island can be great for adults.
Cheboygon - like Charlevoix but on the east side.
Tawas / Oscoda - they are one and the same, on the quieter side of the state, but not too far north of Detroit. Lake Huron is shallower, so it%26#39;s usually warmer, but these aren%26#39;t your typical ';coastal shopping towns';.
Caseville / Port Austin - once again, on Lake Huron, so warmer, the beaches are quiter, the shopping isn%26#39;t as plentiful... but if you%26#39;re idea is on the water... with a good book... and a couple of great restaurants... in isolation.. this is it.
Port Huron - it%26#39;s not really a beach town... but if you%26#39;re flying into Detroit, and don%26#39;t have that long... drive up to Croswell / Lexington, you%26#39;ll find a little beach town, not too crowded, but don%26#39;t expect a happening night life... this is you, a campfire, and a good book... and not too far of a drive.
Now... all of that said... personally, I%26#39;d go for Traverse City, New Buffalo, Saugutuck, or Lexington... depending on exactly what it was I was in the mood for that weekend.
Great Ideas guys, thank you! Pleas keep em coming. I am basically looking for a beach with clear/clean water that is kinda populated, not too isolated please. And we will be driving in from Delaware.
Would love a place right on the beach, that%26#39;ll feed us and preferably has a jacuzzi, but also keep in mind, it will be a girls roadtrip, so we dont want anything too isolated or romantic, :).
I definitely think that Traverse City is the place to go. It will have everything you need for a great time. There are tons of upscale hotels right on the beach. The beach is clean and the water is blue. I love the Grand Beach and/or Sugar Beach Hotel. You can get a jacuzzi room with a beach view. There is a huge mall, outlet mall, downtown shopping, great restaurants and tons of night life. You%26#39;ll love it.
