Three friends and myself took a weekend (Sat %26amp; Sun) trip to Detroit this mid November. One us had several free rooms coming to him and he was gracious enough to comp each of us our own room at the MGM Grand. The airport is easy to fly in %26amp; out of, and flights seem to run pretty much on time compared to other major city airports. The airport itself is up to date with a lot of reasonable palces to relax, eat %26amp; watch some football or news.
Rental car access is easy, we were to downtown in about 20 minutes. The MGM Grand is one of the finest hotels I%26#39;ve stayed at, but I was quite disappointed in the food there. Next time I%26#39;ll eat in Greektown.
A detailed review will be posted about the MGM Grand stay. Table minimums were $10 during the day, and went up to $15 at night.
Since I was the only one prepared to cross into Canada and back, I gave the border crossing a try about 9PM. Went to Caesars Windsor for a few hours and enjoyed the smoke free casino. I had a friendly border agent in both directions. Upon my return, downtown Detroit was a ghost town at midnight, Saturday night.
My past Michigan visits have been during warmer weather, having enjoyed Greenfield Village %26amp; the HF, doing the fudgie thing up in Mac, fishing in the UP. We all enjoyed the brief lake effect snow on the way back to the airport.
Looking forward to a return trip via Spirit with those $9 fares!!! As usual Detroit was a fun place to visit, with nice people. I hope the Grand is a sign of good things to come for the Downtown area.

Mid November TR for Detroit
Zoke: Thanks for the trip report! I, too, was pleasantly surprised by downtown Detroit. It is unusual, though, to experience just how quiet downtown Detroit becomes at night. Still, it has much to offer. I hope others take the time to experience it sometime soon! Moms
