I%26#39;m going to be going to Detroit in the beginning of April for the Final Four. Any suggestions for hotels to stay? we are just looking for a decent area for a moderate price.
hotels in detroit
I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s time to make hotel reservations now, jersey2. Three hotels are very close to Ford Field (walking distance); The Atheneum in Greektown, about half a mile away; Hilton Garden Inn, about 3 short blocks away, and the Marriott at the RenCen, another about half mile away. Prices on these places might be high/moderate. The Milner Hotel is another choice, again, about 3 blocks away. But the Milner is, to be charitable, severely lacking in amenities.
To participate in the pre-and post-game excitement downtown, one of these hotels should be strongly considered.
I%26#39;m including the Final Four Hospitality link from the NCAA website below.

I also recommend The Inn at Ferry Avenue. It is a bed and breakfast in the most beautiful homes in downtown Detroit right around the corner from the Detroit Institute of Art. It is not within walking distance of Ford Field but they offer complimentary shuttle service anywhere in the Ford Field area. The rooms as stunning and comfortable and the service is top notch.
While visiting Detroit, make sure to take a tour of the Motown Museum, a unique Detroit treasure! Moms
I must say I was surprised to see that the Milner had made improvements from what I remembered. It is in a great location if you%26#39;re looking to bar hop in the stadium district or in Greektown. It isn%26#39;t super luxurious but like I said it has made improvements from the last time I was in it.
The Holiday Inn Express near Cobo is also moderately priced and a bit better than the Milner. It however is not in the best location to walk. There is a people mover station right across the street though and that is a very inexpensive way to travel around downtown Detroit although its range is limited.
There are cheaper options but I wouldn%26#39;t go much lower than these two.
Hilton Garden Inn is a solid, affordable choice next to Ford Field; also don%26#39;t overlook the Holiday Inn Express on Washington Avenue. Nothing special, but non-scary, for sure.
visitors should be aware that downtown detroit has added some really good hotels in the past few years - here%26#39;s a link to a decent guide to the better choices:

HGI couldn%26#39;t be more convenient to Ford Field, the Marriot at the Ren Cen would be a good choice also as it is convenient to the people mover.
I would check asap if I were you as the choice hotels are likley to book fast or be booked by the NCAA for teams and media and the like.
You may end up looking to the suburbs for acommodations.
Good luck
Thank you all. Unfortunately I guess I%26#39;m too late. None of these hotels had availability.
Will you be looking for a suburban hotel, jersey2?
There are scores of hotel rooms in Dearborn, Novi, and Romulus. All within a half-hour travel of Ford Field.
BTW...no one has mentioned the St Regis. In Detroit%26#39;s New Center, about 8 minutes from Ford Field.
';Moderate price'; probably isn%26#39;t going to be easy to find for the Final Four. If you have a car, looking in any of the suburban locations within a 30 minute drive might produce vacancies. Without a car, it is going to be very limiting.
Of the 3 cities mentioned, the closest to the game are Dearborn, Romulus and Novi (in that order). You also might check hotels in Livonia, Southfield and Farmington Hills, to mention a few other locations. All meet the rough 30 minute drive time criterion. If nothing is available or affordable in any of those 6 cities, post back and we can offer additional search possibilities.
Dearborn and adjacent cities probably have a combined 3 dozen or more hotels/motels. They range from the Ritz-Carlton and other major chains (Hyatt Regency, DoubleTree, Marriott Dearborn Inn, Residence Inn) through Best Western, Quality Inns and similar properties to mom and pop places, some of which resemble 1960s-era motels and a few of which likely serve (ahem. .) a somewhat seedy clientele.
Romulus is the city where the airport is located: lots of hotels/motels and a straight shot down I-94 to Detroit. Novi is, by far, the most distant, but has a number of hotels/motels, along with lots of restaurants and shopping.
Since they%26#39;re all sold out I%26#39;d say start checking the park and fly hotels by DTW airport. It is only about a 15-20 minute ride to downtown and there are several hotels all along Merriman and Middlebelt. La Quinta is a moderately priced one that comes to mind. There are several smaller motels by there that are also well under $100 a night. It is a good idea to rent a car while you%26#39;re in Detroit anyways.
You can try Motorcity hotel, the MGM hotel, and Westin Book Cadillac - all would be fairly close. Don%26#39;t forget to try different room types (i.e. they may have a suite available instead of a regular room.)
