hotels in ferndale

I%26#39;m going to a concert at the Magic Bag in Ferndale next weekend. What are the closest hotels to this place?

hotels in ferndale

There are hotels in Southfield near I-696 and Telegraph Road (US-24). There are also several around I-75 around 14 and 15 Mile Roads on the Madison Heights/Troy border. Southfield would be about 4-5 miles west of Ferndale and Troy is about 5 miles north.

The closest is the Days Inn at 9 Mile and John R, a little over a mile east of the Magic Bag. It%26#39;s in Hazel Park. Ferndale isn%26#39;t a hotel town, unless you count the fleabag motels on 8 Mile, which I think are technically in Detroit, and may offer a little more excitement than you%26#39;re looking for in a hotel stay.

The hotel at 9 Mile %26amp; John R is no longer a Days Inn. I%26#39;d sort of group it in the same class with the places along 8 Mile.

In Southfield, there%26#39;s a range of places including an Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Red Roof and Westin.

In Madison Heights, you%26#39;ll have a choice of a Courtyard, Red Roof, Hampton Inn, Extended Stay America, Fairfield, Motel 6 and Best Western. Several restaurants and Oakland Mall are nearby.

There is also a Marriott Springhill Suites off of Northwestern Highway in Southfield. Southfield puts you a little closer to 696/96 than Madison heights, which would add about 10-15 min to your drive home.

There are also hotels in Farmington Hills, right off 696 and Orchard Lake Road.

It doesn%26#39;t seem fair to put the the Days Inn (it%26#39;s still a Days property - now called the Days Hotel) in the same category as the 8 Mile crack motels.

Hazel Park may be humble, sure, but for someone looking to crash after a show down the street, it%26#39;ll do. Cheap as dirt, too - $50 bucks for later in the week.

Sure, Southfield will offer more choice and nicer digs. So will a lot of other suburbs, or downtown Detroit, for that matter. But, strictly answering mojocha%26#39;s question, the Days Hotel is the closest option, just one mile away from the Magic Bag.

I%26#39;m considering staying at Days Hotel with a couple of girlfriends for one night. We%26#39;re going out in Ferndale. I%26#39;m a little concerned about the crack motel comment that was made previously. Is this hotel okay for three 30-something girls to crash at for the night? We just want clean and convenient - short cab ride or walk to the bars and restaurants.

Thanks.

There is also the Travelodge Royal Oak on Woodward... there are some decent, recent reviews of the place on TA.

There is a recent review of the Days Hotel in Hazel Park, also that is pretty positive. So either way.. .for a clean place to lay your head and lots of breakfast options... I think you would be ok.

Slacgrl,

STAY AWAY from the hotels on 8 mile. Heycollegeboy is dead-nuts on with his assessment, too. While I haven%26#39;t been in it, the place in Hazel Park is in a more blue collar of an area while the places on 8 mile are flat out dirty and advertise 3 hour rates.

Ferndale, for such a small town, is quite diverse (in more ways that one). The first few blocks north of 8 mile are no where you want to be, however as you get closer to 9 mile things clean up quickly, more so West of Woodward. I used to live about 2 very short blocks from the Magic Bag and can personally vouch for the safety of the surrounding area --- you%26#39;ll be fine.

As far as motels are concerned, I like the Travelodge Royal Oak the best, even if it%26#39;s going to be a few (maybe $10-20) bucks more per night. In addition, you%26#39;ll be able to drive past a few fun places after the concert as you drive up Woodward!
