My sister and I are going to be taking our mother to Mackinaw Island
this summer. We will be staying at the Grand hotel for two nights. I am looking for an affordable place to stay the night before in Mackinaw City. There will be 3 of us and we would like to give our Mother her own room or maybe a family style unit with a seperate sleeping area for her. Does any one have any suggestions of an nice clean affordable place to stay while we are there. Also any insight to our trip to this area we would appreciate.

Whatever you do, don%26#39;t stay at any of the Leghio owned hotels/motels. If you do then plan on a bad stay, possible overbilling, and pretty bad conditions. They own the following in Mackinac City;
Best Western Dockside, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Econo Lodge Bayview, Super 8 Beachfront, Super 8 Bridgeview, Quality Inn Lakefront, Hamilton Inn, and possibly 1-2 others.. All located in Mackinaw City.

You may try Holiday Inn Express. I had a suite on the 4th floor, with a seperate bedroom, and living room, and the living room sofa was a sofa bed. It had 2 balconies, 2 tv%26#39;s, a fireplace, and microwave and fridge. there was a living room, with wet bar and bathroom, then you go into the bedroom, with another bathroom. and there is a door between that you can close. A balcony off the living room and a balcony off the bedroom. Bedroom had two beds. It was $118 then, don%26#39;t know how much now. But I did like it and will go back. I even had a nice jacuzzi in the first bathroom.
And the bathrooms have little tv%26#39;s.
YOu could try the Clarion Inn. We just stayed there in the middle of July. The first room we were given had a small problem but Veletia was very cooperative and made sure that we were taken care of. The hotel is clean and located next to Arnold boats. The staff is very accomodating and the free breakfast is excellent!

Rohan721,
Mackinaw City is trying to add an ordinance that would give the community ';some muscle in enforcing laws against consumer fraud, for example, by letting it ultimately refuse a license to a business that had been convicted of such fraud and barring it from reopening in the village.';
There as been a ';protest by hotel owner Enzo Lieghio';
