I am planning to visit Detroit this weekend and have plans to go to Canada for a day. After that I will be left with three days and am trying to find out which are the best places near Detroit (dont mind 4-5 hours drive). All I can think of is Chicago.
Can anyone suggest some great places to see near Detroit? Anything from beaches to adventure is fine with me, or even a happening city will do. I am new here so dont know much about places.

Cleveland is within easy driving range. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is there. It%26#39;s quite nice.

Chicago is always fun, but in Michigan I would suggest:
Beach towns on Lake Michigan (2-3 hours west)
Saugatuck
Grand Haven
Traverse City (3-4 hours NW)
Mackinac Island (5 hours north)
Niagra Falls Candada (4 hours drive)
If you decide to stay in the Detroit area there%26#39;s always Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Detroit zoo, theaters, Tigers ball game and casinos.

Canada has some nice little wineries within a 30 minute drive of Windsor if you like wine. Niagra also has some nice wineries as does the southwestern part of Michigan (Paw Paw) and Traverse City area.
Enjoy!
Thanks a ton for your replies!!
Beachtowns definitely appear to be a great place...I think I will plan out my trip to giving couple of days to these places and a day to Chicago....
By anychance anybody knows what are the best places to see in Chicago or nearby?
If you%26#39;re going to Chicago then I would hit Saugatuck on your way. In reagrd to Chicago I would stay in the river north area. You%26#39;re right by Michigan Ave, the Navy Pier and many of the museums. Also, the public transit is great and it%26#39;s very easy to get from place to place there.
It looks like you%26#39;ve already decided on Chicago, but let me put in my two cents for Stratford, Ontario. It%26#39;s about a three hour drive from Detroit, and is a great town to visit in the summer with its renowned Shakespeare Festival, wide variety of dining options, and lodging ranging from B%26amp;Bs to luxury resorts. Plus there%26#39;s always activities on the River Avon (actually, Lake Victoria) and neat little daytrips from Stratford itself.
hi hi hi!!!! good luck... driving to Chicago
Hohiho-
