Boat Excursions from St. Ignace

We will be in St. Ignace this June for three days. One of the days we will be going to the Soo for a trip through the locks. We are looking for another activity while we are in St. Ignace. Does anyone know of any boat excursions for sightseeing (not fishing) trips? We thought this would be a good way to really see Lake Huron.

Do you plan to go to Mackinac Island while there? There are ferries that go from St. Ignace to Mackinac - it would be a great way to spend a day.

Hello MsBiker,

My post is not about Boat Excursions but I see by your other post that you plan touring the Upper Peninsula.

If you are going to the Soo you should take a ride to Tahquamenon Falls. It is the 2nd largest falls East of the Mississippi.

Here are some web sites about the UP

The above web sites also talk about Lighthouses which maybe of interest to you.

If your into seeing waterfalls and the UP has a few here are some web sites about that -

TravlCapl: Mackinac Island is on the list. We are looking, though, for as many suggestions as possible in case a few of us want to do something less ';touristy.';

Yooperbacker: Thanks so much for all those wonderful links! Waterfalls and lighthouses are on the list as we make our slow way to Keweenah Peninsula. A tour of Tahquamenon Falls is on our list as we make our way to Munising for a couple of days before heading to Copper Country.

Shepler%26#39;s offers lighthouse cruises out of Mackinaw City. They regularly offer two different cruises.

One goes east past Mackinac Island, around Bois Blanc, into the Cheboygan River and back. The other goes west into northern Lake Michigan.

Both sto p and give you a great cahnce to see the Mackinac Bridge up close.

These are photos I took when doing the west cruise in 2005 http://www.mightymac.org/05lights1.htm

We are a family of 5 also planning a trip to this area in the first half of June. Definately plan a day on the island, but can someone give me pros/cons about staying in St. Ignace vs. Mackinaw City? Mom, Dad, and 3 girls under 10 if that makes a difference.

I think the girls will find Mackinaw more interesting - outdoor water park, mini indoor water parks at some motels, laser light show at the crossings, concerts at the bandshell on the shore, mini golf, street entertainers, Fort Michilimackinac, Mill Creek Park, walking along the shore with great views of the Bridge.

If you stay at one of the lakefront motels, most now have campfires on the shore in the evening.
