Canoeing in Michigan/Indiana/Illinois

I am looking for a excluded river for a fun weekend with my friends. Was hoping for a river that isnt exactly a resort type place with campgronds and things like. More of a River that is just around that people have gone canoeing for either a overnight or a weekend trip. Were there are no people around and no police or people to make us leave. There will be alcohol involved in this trip which is why we dont want police around.

If anybody has any Rivers/Streams or anything like that Please let me know. Thank you.

Hello CaptianDom,

Do you have your own canoes? Have you canoed before?

Have you considered the Upper Peninsula of Michigan?

Yes I have my own canoes. There will be around 10-15 of us.And we have gone Canoeing before and we are all pretty well trianed at canoeing.

And are there houses along the sides of the Stream.or is it all forest type areas?

You might consider the Platte River in northwestern MI, in the lower peninsula. They have a great river; I have not seen police around there at all, personally. Doesn%26#39;t mean that there isn%26#39;t. A few cottages along the river. Lots of families, though. But I have seen lots of crazy college kids partying hard along that river, taking their time, drinking the day away. The park at the end of the river is patrolled, though. You do not want to do the AuSable River in Grayling, MI. They have cracked down in recent years, from what I have seen and heard. That is a very popular canoeing river in MI and someone will suggest it probably.

Do you think you would beable to send me a link to it or the location on mapquest or something like that?

The Pere Marquette River, east of Ludington, might be one to try... fit your criteria, at least 25 years ago when I worked in the area one summer.
