With no knowledge of the area - I am in need of a hotel for a couple of nights surrounding a campus tour at UM. In your opinion, do we need to be close to campus or is it pretty easy to find your way around? I guess we might want to stay in that general area just to get a feel for %26#39;living%26#39; there - does that make sense or is the whole town pretty much %26#39;near campus%26#39;? I like trusty chain hotels, Marriott and such. Any suggestions? Thanks! E~
Hotel for UM visit
Unlike many big schools the UM campus is not in a confined area. It is very much integrated with the city. However, the places you might want to stay that are closer to the central campus area would be the Campus Inn or Bell Tower. Both would allow you to walk to many central campus locations including the Diag. Otherwise, you%26#39;ll find good chain places like Holiday Inn and Sheraton on the outskirts of town which will require that use use your car a bit more.

Thanks - that sums up what I needed to know.
You don%26#39;t need to stay close to campus but Ann Arbor is unique and not the easiest to get around because of some of the one ways. It is not a huge city so don%26#39;t worry too much. The whole town is not pretty much near campus though. The majority of the campus is downtown but there ar some portions of campus that are on the other side of town. Ypsilanti butts right up to Ann Arbor too. Go with the Holiday Inn Express off the State St. exit. It is conveniently located just off I-94 and is only about a 5 minute drive to campus. It is also close to the Briarwood Mall.
If you stay at one of the hotels near Briarwood Mall, you can readily catch a bus downtown / to campus. There are 2 buses that run from the mall itself, or the 36 that runs from Wolverine Tower (mostly an administrative building for UM).
I don%26#39;t know how the prices compare, but there are a few rooms in the Michigan League (on campus).
Thanks for the info and advice. I am really looking forward to our visit.
