Our daughter will be attending Cooley in the spring and we will be travelling with her to Lansing late March to help her find an apt. etc. We would like to stay in a central area as we do not have access to a car. Can you recommend reasonably priced accommodation. We would like to cook our own meals, if possible. Are there any good extended-stays close to a supermarket? Is East Lansing handy and less expensive? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Is there a reason you won%26#39;t have access to a car? The reason I ask is that it is so much more convenient to use a car in Lansing and the surrounding areas than it is to rely on the bus system. While Lansing has a good mass transit system I would not call it great. You will be spending a fair amount of time waiting for buses. If you must use the bus system, I recommend the Residence Inn on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. I believe it is on one of the more frequent bus routes.

I was informed parking was very expensive and that the bus system was good?? We might be there for about three weeks. So renting a car is the way to go? Thanks for the info.
If you rent a car, your options for hotels increase exponentially. I recommend the Hampton Inn on Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing. While they do not have kitchens in the rooms, the rooms are very nice and breakfast is included. Meijer%26#39;s super market is next door so you could get some ready made dinners there and eat them at the hotel. I stayed at the Hampton Inn over Christmas and it was very nice.
There are also many choices around Okemos Road and I-96. As for parking, you do have to pay to park in downtown Lansing near the school but compared to a major city like Vancouver I doubt it is very expensive. The hotels I have recommended offer free overnight parking.

Thanks. Will check these out.
