I so much had wanted to make a reservation at the Bay View B %26amp; B after reading about it on their website. I had made a 3 day reservation at their sister place in Mackinaw City the Brigadoon. I thought I could drop the last day that I had planned for the Brigadoon and stay that day at Bay View on the island. No dice. At the Brigadoon and Bay View they charge $30 for every night cancelled so if you plan anywhere from a 2 -7 day stay at either place it will cost you in addition to what you pay for the room if you cancell less than 10 days prior to arrival $60 - $210. Most places on the island charge just a one time cancellation fee. Also when you cancell less than 10 days prior to arrival you are also out the total cost of reservation. If you cancell more than 10 days prior to arrival you will get your refund of reservation minus the $30 charge for every night cancelled. Also these people do not communicate very well. You can leave a phone message and it wont get answered for sometimes at least 2 days. E-mail is another thing. Most of those go unanswered. I would have cancelled my stay at the Brigadoon which I have planned for part of the first week of June but as you can see I would lose quite a bit. After this year I will go elsewhere

The message I get from your posting: Read the fine print before you make a reservation. These days, everyone in the travel industry seems to have tighter restrictions on cancellations.
We stayed at the Bay View a few years ago and they had a restrictive cancellation policy then, but we booked anyway and it turned out to be one of our favorite island stays. The nightly desserts are fantastic and the location perfect!

That cancellation policy is about what I would expect.
But I agree, Brigadoon is bad at communication. Bad enough that I am unlikely to ever stay there.
The cancellation policies of many of the Mackinac Island accomodations are in line with many touristy destinations. This does make it difficult for us as our vacations may be cancelled at the last minute due to my husband%26#39;s work. However, we still enjoy visiting and staying on the island. In our situation we do need to pay careful attention to each individual cancellation policy and plan accordingly.
I did read fine print and I say that charging a cancellation fee for every night of your stay is excessive. All other places I checked have a one time cancellation fee, not a charge for every single night.
