Looking for a quick weekend getaway and might consider the Frankenmuth area. (coming from West MI)
Any recommendations for lodging? Looking for a more quiet experience with not a lot of kids running around, so the 2 biggy water park/resorts are probably out. We know there is a new casino somewhere on that side of the state. Does anyone know how far from Frankenmuth it is? I think it is a bit further north???? What is there to do in Frankenmuth, other than the Christmas stores? Thanks for the help
Frankenmuth
Doggy-
The casino is no where in the vacinity of Frankenmuth. In fact, Frankenmuth is all about the little shopping, or the festivals that are going on... there%26#39;s also Birch Run about 15 minutes away (outlet mall shopping)... you%26#39;re best bet is to pick a weekend when something else is going on in town, like the Bavarian Fest is coming up.... or plan to drive up and spend the day at a Lake Huron / Saginaw Bay beach town as well.
As for lodging, you might want to try the Marriot (I think it%26#39;s a Springhill, the Dury, one of the places in Birch Run, or I think there is a B %26amp; B.
Frankenmuth
The new casino of which you speak is in Standish. Standish is about one hour from Frankenmuth, north on I-75, exit to US 23 and follow signs once entering Standish. I have not been there.
There is a river boat ride, that I consider expensive for what you get. Last time I checked it was around $8/adult. But to each his own. There is a small petting farm, but since you don%26#39;t have kids, well, doubt you%26#39;d be interested. A riverwalk, which is nice, and some nice parks. Golfing is available; putt putt golf also. Small military museum/historical museum. Nice rose garden in a city park.
Some scenic drives of short length.
Other than the shopping, festivals, and Christmas store, that is about it. The town is very clean, cute and beautiful flowers. So, you can just people watch from a bench in a lovely park, along Main Street or at one of the local shopping venues.
We%26#39;re heading up to Frankenmuth from Buffalo next weekend on a whim!
We wanted a little getaway to some place we had never been, that was within a few hours drive, and Frankenmuth was the choice!
The more I read, the happier I am we chose this location for a 3-day getaway.
Any locals kn ow of anything special going on from 6/26-6/30 that we should be sure not to miss?
Thank You!
:)
I think that might be the Bavarian Fest. The dates always change... but I believe it is next weekend (haven%26#39;t drove through town to see the sign lately).
Have fun!
Thanks!
I just checked and Bavarian Fest was last week (6/12 - 6/15).
Sorry we missed it, but I guess we can no look forward to smaller crowds in town this week! HAHA!
Hopefully the weather will co-operate and make it a nice visit!
Has anyone been to Framnkenmuth in winter months? I%26#39;ve never been there but I am thinking warmer weather would be a better time to go?
Definitely wait til Summer!
It%26#39;s a highly walkable village and we walked everywhere!
There is also lots of flowers and plants to see and a Paddlewheel Boat ride that you will miss out on in Winter.
Plus...depending on where you are coming from, the driving could be bad and the weather unpredictable.
Wait til summer and enjoy a few great days in Frankenmuth!
We loved it and can%26#39;t wait to go back this summer!
I think the best time is the fall, but it can get pretty crowded.
Yes, warmer weather would be better. However, they have sidewalks that melt the snow, so walking around is no problem. All the stores are open, as well as the restaurants. If you are looking for more than shopping, and Bronner%26#39;s, then I would wait til summer. I hear the new Herzog Hotel is very nice, and I doubt there would be that many children there period, little alone during the off months.
Actually, last weekend would have been the best if you were coming in the winter... as it was the winterfest! Absolutely beautiful! We had a blast!
I personally love it best at Christmas... when all the lights and Bronners make the most sense.... it can get crazy busy in the summer....
But, personally, there are pluses and minuses to any time.
