It%26#39;s our anniversary on February 14th and we want to do something different. We don%26#39;t want to drive too far and don%26#39;t want to fly. We live near Petoskey. Anybody got any creative ideas?
Ideas for a Northern Michigan Valentine's Weekend??
What type of place or town would be ';different for you?'; I think we need to know that before we cana answer for you! Have you ever been to Mackinac Island during the winter? That is very cool (no pun intended!) and romantic. You could cross country ski, or just walk around and take in the views. There are hotels that stay open, some with hot tubs, I believe. You would fly from St. Ignace. Sledding available. Not sure about snowmobiling. Hang with the locals at night at one of the few places that stay open. Village Inn for dinner and drinks.
Let us know in a little more detail what you are looking for and I think we can answer with more detail!

Another thought! Boyne Mountain has some fun winter activities that you might be interested in. You could stay there, but it is quite expensive. If that is a problem for you, there are other lodgings around for much cheaper. But you could still partake in Boyne%26#39;s offerings, like their snow groomer rides, dog sled rides, moonlit wagon rides (or maybe it was a groomer...) that take you to a cool dinner up on the mountain, and the water park is available, too.
Or there is Elk viewing and Gourmet Dinner at Thunder Bay Resort. Take a sleigh ride thru the woods, view the elk and then have this wonderful dinner cooked in a cabin in the woods, on an old-fashioned stove. Accomodations available. Packages. Call 800-729-9375. Located in Hillman, about 50 miles east of Gaylord.
Something we have done: Stayed right in our own town, in a hotel or B%26amp;B we have always wanted to stay in. And then we visited the offbeat places we never have, but always wanted to. That could be visiting your local casino, if you haven%26#39;t, or taking a long walk along the shore, going for a walk in the snowy woods in your local park, having dinner somewhere totally new, and just relaxing in your room/hotel/B%26amp;B/hot tub etc.!
Reading the post header - Ideas for a Northern Michigan Valentine%26#39;s Weekend, I have to keep telling myself that Northern Michigan is lower michigan and not the other 1/3 of Michigan above the bridge. I get confused because in Marquette there is a college there called Northern Michigan University.
Don%26#39;t take the statement above wrong. I am just trying to be silly, eh.
We understand Yooper, we know what all that snow must be doing to your brain-EH? LOL.
Garland Resort just outside of Lewiston. Sleigh Rides, Cross Country Skiing, Gourmet Dinners, very romantic.
Here%26#39;s the link....

Thanks for the tips. We haven%26#39;t been to the Garland area at all so that might be interesting.
