Coming for a visit the first week of June, need a nice pretty new clean hotel on the beach, lake view, etc. Anyone visited lately and have some good ideas for a hotel, need a pool for 11 year old
Mackinaw city hotel for June 2009
Here%26#39;s my suggestions! First, the Riviera Hotel. It%26#39;s nice, clean, right on the lake, and has a great pool. However, its really very ';new'; and it is a little farther from the downtown area/ferry docks. (Only about 4 blocks, Mackinaw is a very small town.)
Second, the Clearwater Lakeshore. Again, clean, on the lake, and actually has 2 pools, one indoor and one outdoor. However, again not exactly ';new'; and farther from downtown.
Finally, what used to be the Chippewa Hotel and is now the Mackinaw Bay All Suites Hotel. This one will probably be the best for you because its brand new, has a pool, is on the lake, and is made up of all suites so it might be better more of a condo/suite set up. The only thing is, I%26#39;m not sure when it will be opening. It was supposed to open last summer, but they had a lot of construction delays and last I heard it%26#39;s not open yet. It probably should be by June though.
I want to warn you about a some of the hotels that are right downtown on the lake. You might have read this in some of the other threads, but most of the hotels in this area are owned by the same family. They have most of the big chain hotels but are generally know for giving terrible service with terrible quality rooms and often run scams. It%26#39;s certainly avoidable but it is something to be aware of.

Clear Water Resort has one of the best views. Most of the rooms are fairly new and are along the shore with private balconies. It is one of Mackinaw%26#39;s better values.
Your 11 year old will ike the fires along the water at night.
(Hi Kansas City:-)
The Riviera Motel is all the things Lizard describes, but I think they meant to type in ';not new.'; The rooms are pretty plain and could use some updating, but we found them comfortable enough and met all of our needs. If you want the best room, try 112, or I think 111, right below it. They are at the end of the motel, closest to the beach, with a large porch/deck off of their rooms, just for your use. Nothing like listening to the water roll into shore with the windows open...
In early June, you will probably be happier with an indoor pool.
Yep that is what I meant. I didn%26#39;t even catch it. Thanks! :)
you said ';I want to warn you about a some of the hotels that are right downtown on the lake.';
Could you possibly list some of them (or point me to the thread where you did). I think I know which you are talking about based on reviews of them, but at the same time I%26#39;m not sure.
I%26#39;m going to Mackinaw City June 25-27, looking for a nice place to stay... I love the in room jacuzzi%26#39;s that many places offer. I%26#39;m ok with not being on the water although that is my first choice. I%26#39;m just not sure which of these hotels on the water are the ones you are warning about.
Does anyone have any comments about this one?

There are older reviews (2006) that are negative, recent reviews are positive. I think the view would be amazing on the waterfront.
Please provide your comments if you%26#39;ve heard anything about this place though, I will probably book tonight if I don%26#39;t hear anything or find anything (gonna search the net for more reviews tonight) :)
when is the best time to go, I was planning June 1-8, is that too erly, too cold, is later in June early July better?
I choose late June based on the Monthly Averages on Weather.com. Here%26#39;s a link

There is about a 10 degree difference between early june and late june making me think late june is best.
Vivasuzi,
You%26#39;re basically right about it being the ones with bad reviews. Here%26#39;s the list which as far as I know is accurate and upto date but if anyone else have any other information please correct it!
Best Western Dockside, Days Inn, Hamilton Inn, Ramada Waterfront, Clarion, Baymont, Quality Inn and Suites, Super 8 Waterfront.
As far as the Grandview, I%26#39;ve never stayed there myself but I%26#39;ve never heard anything bad about it. I think it%26#39;s a pretty standard, clean but basic kind of hotel. I don%26#39;t think it has a lot of amenities, but if all you%26#39;re looking for is a place to sleep it should be good. It also has a very nice view.
