Snowboarding

Hi all!

Just wondering if you could recommend the best ski/snowboarding resorts around the western UP?

I%26#39;m also curious how they compare to some of the more famous places like Utah and Colorado?

I don%26#39;t hear too much about the UP... I%26#39;m on a quest to find out more about it since my Mother and Father (God rest their souls) were from Hancock as well as much of my Finnish family.

Thanks!

Snowboarding

Hello podo944,

The best place I know of to snowboard is

Mount Bohemia. It is located between Hancock and Copper Harbor.

My daughter and I were there two years ago and I dropped her off to snowboard. She just loved it.

Beginners are not allowed to ski or snowboard at Mount Bohemia.

Here is another web site that list ski places in the UP.

Thanks for the info!

Mount Bohemia sounds intense! Lot%26#39;s of *gulp* trees!

We live in So. Cal and my son usually goes up to Big Bear. Unfortunately he only gets to go a few times during the winter season and he%26#39;s actually very good he does do the advance runs no problem, however, I%26#39;m not sure if he%26#39;d be ready for that kind of back country thing. (of course this is his mom speaking, he%26#39;d probably be chomping on the bit to go! Ha ha!)

I would imagine you%26#39;d have to spend a lot of time snowboarding to be up for Bohemia?

Does your daughter snowboard a lot?

Thanks!

Did you watch the video and the crazy skiing and snowboarding? If you did I can see why you would be thinking it might be a bit much. The video does show you how skiing is done there but you don%26#39;t have to do the runs they show in the movie. Your Son will not have any problem snowboarding there. My Wife saw that video after my Daughter and I went and she said if she had seen that video before we went she would have been wondering herself if it was safe.

My daughter at the time had only been snowboarding for two years and she loved it.

When I dropped my Daughter off I went to Lac la belle, a small town (if that). There is a bar/restaurant there. It is located right on the waters edge of Belle, lac la. They have a picture hanging behind the bar that shows seaplanes that dock there in the summer. Someone at Mount Bohemia will tell you how to get there.

Hi Yooperbacker!

Thanks for your advice! Well, I was kind of toying with the idea of going there before this winter is over, but now I%26#39;m thinking summer or fall, mainly because I think the first time there, I like to do some exploring on dry land. I%26#39;ve been reading how pretty the autumn color season is, but the summer sounds fun for canoeing and biking.

I%26#39;ve read to avoid June %26#39;cause that%26#39;s when most of the bugs are out? Does it get really hot and humid in the summer? Could you tell me how cold it gets in late Sept, early Oct.? Is it still warm enough to hike?

Thanks!!!

p.s. I only recently found out about ';Yoopers'; last year! :-)

For us up here really hot is 85°. It does hit this now and again but it is not humid. Forecasting weather in the UP is hard. September, October is still good for hiking. If I were to pick a time of the year to visit and wanted to hike and canoe I would pick the last week in July and most of August.

I do hope you can make it here next year !
