Ok, this is a dumb question but...here goes...
When are the dirt roads most muddy? I visited last year in the summer and they were dusty. Driving through there was like driving through beach sand or snow even...a little skidding but no problem. My cheapie econobox had no trouble at all.
I%26#39;m thinking of other times to visit. When are the roads most muddy? I realize it has to do with rain fall and snow melt, right?
Sorry...I%26#39;m a city person, so... I need all the help I can get. I just don%26#39;t want to rent a cheapo car (which I%26#39;d like to) if the roads require 4x4.
Any advice?
Is April ok?
dumb question---dirt roads in april
Hello Queens lace,
From reading your question are you looking for dirt roads that are muddy or looking for these roads to be dry but not so dry they are dusty.
When you speak of dirt roads, what roads are you speaking of?
dumb question---dirt roads in april
Up by T falls...is that Newberry or Paradise? I just remember going on some dirt roads that were dusty but passable. Talking to folks up there, I learned that sometimes when the roads are muddy, it%26#39;s possible to get stuck if you don%26#39;t have 4x4. I just want to know when the roads are likely to be muddy so that if I visit, I rent the appropriate type of vehicle.
Usually near the end of April the ice on inland lakes are breaking up or melted. There maybe snow still in the woods or where it is hard for the sun to reach.
I would say April will be muddy, snowy roads in spots but for sure not dusty.
Thanks. it%26#39;s the mud I%26#39;m afraid of. I%26#39;ve been through dusty in July and that was okay but folks warned me of the mud.
I%26#39;m not familiar with the area you%26#39;re talking about but in general the dirt/gravel roads in Michigan get the muddiest when the frost leaves the ground. Especially if they get a little traffic. Of course rain and snow melt doesn%26#39;t help but it%26#39;s really the moisture in the first foot of earth thawing and the moisture is released, it also causes our famous potholes on paved roads.
