We are a mid-40s couple traveling for a week, thinking we%26#39;ll fly into Traverse City and split the week between TC and Mackinac Island. Does that make sense? We%26#39;re not rugged, looking for some sightseeing and relaxation. Thanks!
Week in August
Sure, that makes sense... and, while you%26#39;re planning your trip, explore the possibilities for sightseeing %26amp; relaxation between TC and the island. While you can make the trip in a couple of hours, the towns of Charlevoix, Petoskey %26amp; Harbor Springs may offer you an interim overnight and an opportunity to see more of NW Lower Michigan. I%26#39;d recommend considering an overnight in the Petoskey/Bay View/Harbor Springs area either on your way up or back from the Island. And, as you may know, overnights on the Island are completely different than a day trip... after the last evening ferry and before the first one in the morning, the Island is extremely relaxing. A couple of days enjoying TC %26amp; Leelanau County, a couple on the Island and check out driving US 31 to Petoskey and then M 119 through Good Hart and Cross Village. I also like the Perry Hotel in downtown Petoskey. Enjoy your planning.
Week in August
There are numoerous beautiful resorts %26amp; hotels in both locations. I would like to suggest one of the resorts in Traverse that my husband and I really enjoyed last summer.

The Cherry Tree Resort %26amp; Hotel in Traverse City was wonderful. We were joking with the front desk and suggesting an upgrade and to our surprise when we entered our room, he had upgraded us... no extra charge! We didn%26#39;t expect that to happen in the least-bit, but when it did, what a pleasant surprise!
Our room offered a fireplace, huge in-room jacuzzi, balcony facing the bay, a kitchenette area, etc. It was an excellent place to spend a long weekend. It is within a close drive to the wineries, the little downtown shopping district, scenic drives up %26amp; down the peninsula. Just a nice place.
Do know that August in Traverse %26amp; Mackinac are quite a bit busier... both are excellent vacationing areas. We opt to travel to these places in October when it is not so busy, plus we love to see the fall colors. (The ';Tunnel of Trees'; is a must see if you are ever in Michigan for the fall color tours.)
Enjoy your trip!!
You may decide to just stay in one location. It is amazing in the lower part of Michigan (Traverse City-Leelanau County-Lake Michigan Shoreline) Mackinac is amzing for sure. The have the huge advertising budget so I think everyone thinks that is the best but you will be surpirsed at the untouched beauty of Northern Michigan. 1 week is never enough.Check out this website http://www.visitupnorth.com for rental ideas and their blog for area information. Wineries, artisian cheese and bread shops, cherries galore, tallship tours, roadside stands, outdoor music, star gazing, nice people, slow pace. The list is endless.
Enjoy!!!
That makes perfect sense. Give the TC area 304 days, the towns in between 2 days and Mackinac Island 2 days. Give or take. There are many, many things to see and do with being ';rugged.'; If you want more specific suggestions than what had already been given, then just tell us and we will help you as best as we can!
